IPv4 space

When the internet was created the standard was a four block internet address. Most people know these addresses as 192.168.x.x which is a problem when everyone on the internet has a ip now days. Then it was decided to up the amount of addresses which is the invent of IPv6 "IPv6 uses a 128-bit address, whereas IPv4 uses only 32 bits. The new address space supports 2128 (about 3.4×1038) addresses." The counter below is a counter of how many IPv4 addresses are still available and when we will be out of space. The adoption of IPv6 has to come soon or there will be lots of issues on the internet.

The Social Network (Review)

I know it was several months ago since I saw the social network but was in fear that if I posted my review of the movie which reflects on Mark Zuckerberg and all my reviews end up on Facebook it would cause issues if I decided to work for that company. However I can now say I probably will not work for Facebook so I am not worried about my review

The movie opens with a young Zuckerberg sitting in a pub with his semi girlfriend who he insults her intelligence at the bar so she breaks up with him. Being mad at her he decides to go back to his dorm room at Harvard and break into all the sorority sites and do a semi hot or not scale of all the sorority girls. While sitting in the theatre at El Dorado Hills I was the only one there who understood how Zuckerberg was using perl scripts to break into the Apache web servers. It was lame security and the movie does kind of a lame job but most of the terminology and screens looked semi correct. Then asked his friend for his chess ranking algorithm to use on the women he launched facesmash.com. The site brought down the harvard network. The movie then goes to where he was in-front of the review board saying that they should thank him for finding that their network was poorly run and that the time that it took to find him was slow.

At the same time Winklevoss twins were planning a website called Harvard Connect and they found out about Mark's Facesmash site and he did it in a drunken state in a night so they hired him to make their site and they would all go into business. Mark believes that he has a better premise which he wants to do called TheFacebook which he tells his friend Eduardo about it and agrees to give thousand dollars to help start the site as well as his fraternity to spread it.

The Winklevoss twins learn about what Mark was doing and try to leave it out of the courts and want the campus president to go and shut down the site since the user base was going wild in Harvard and against the Harvard Code of Conduct (Like anti cheating policy). Mark, while sitting at a Bill Gates lecture sees some hot asian women who he coined the phrase "Facebook us" then has bathroom sex with one of the girls and then sees his former girlfriend and tells her about TheFacebook and she not being a Harvard student didn't care so Mark wanted to expand to more schools.

Mark then meets while in New York trying to get capital investors on Eduardo suggestion meet Napster co-founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake, yes the irony that the music business closes Napster and the poster boy several years ago plays Sean Parker) Parker suggests that he should shorten the name from TheFacebook to just Facebook and they should move to the bay area. Mark being awwed by Parker takes the suggestion and moves to a house in Palo Alto and kind of threw Eduardo under the buss and Parker grows into his role and they then get headquarters which are the current headquarters and Facebook's 1 millionth member, Mark calls the cops on the party and threw Parker under the buss.

The movie shows mostly in the second part the depositions on both the suit from the Winklevoss twins after they found out that Facebook had gone global and one from Eduardo. It was interesting to see how much of a douche Mark was in the movie and if it isn't his way then it's the highway. He is portrayed very well and I believe there is more truth than fiction based on articles and attitude from the real Zuckerberg which the movie used.

The movie is slow and no action but interesting from a documentary. For a site that generates over 40% of the traffic on the internet now and integration into almost everything it is interesting to see it's origins. I recommend that people who use Facebook and CS majors should see the film and time will tell what will and had happened.

Inception (Review)

I have had lots of friends who said I should see Inception. Also one of my friends wanted me to review the movie to see what I say.

Ok so I waked in with no expectations and no issues and used a free ticket to see the movie. I will gripe about one thing and that was the theatre which I love didn't play trailers but no big deal.

The movie is a total Mind FUCK!
Inception is basically trying to make a dream be a real thing so that a person believes they thought the idea and that it is not a fake. The movie is about Leo DiCaprio character goes in to steal information from people's dreams but faces his own daemons from is deceased wife memory. He then gets recruited by a asian man to try to plant in a CEO of a Energy Company to sell his empire so he could rule instead of the other guy. Were most of the movie goes in and gets good is when DiCaprio and his team plan to go 3 levels deep in this CEO mind and make it seem he is betrayed by his uncle and his father wanted him to sell the company. Well things don't go well and there is lots of talk about going into limbo which means you never wake up. Well instead of 3 levels deep they actually go 4 and boy is it interesting but then a let down. The movie does a twist at the end which reminds me of the scene in Star Trek 5 "ROW ROW ROW YOUR BOAT" you know what i mean. (Life might be a dream).

After watching this movie the ending reminds me of repo men which was just released which has the same type of end and it's strange how close they were. I recommend the movie if you want a MIND FUCK but otherwise it is semi slow and has that Batman: Dark Night feeling which is long but good special effects for a dream movie.

Latitudie iPhone App (Review)

Normally I don't write about iPhone apps, especially ones you have to pay for. However I wanted to talk about this one.

I have been using Google Latitude for about 1.5 year and it is a great feature google introduced for friends to be able to see were other friends are so that you could plan to do things with them. I currently have 12 friends that accepted my friend request and I normally only see 5 friends use it. It works on all smart phone either via http://www.google.com/latitude or on iGoogle via your PC or Mac with most web browsers. I know my friends who have a Android Device or a Blackberry have had a way to run Latitude on the background for about as long as it have been available.

The iPhone users have to open Safari since 3.0 and then go to Google Latitude url or have a home screen shortcut if they want to update their location then close the browser. Even with iOS4 Safari doesn't let it run in the background which is lame. Now comes a app made to solve the problem called Latitudie. The app launches and send the cell tower information if there is a change which I have noticed doesn't affect battery life. I have been using it all day and love the results and shows the true power of background apps on the iPhone. The only concern is the 1.99 price tag but is nice to have if you want a cheep solution if you lost your phone. I am just saying that latitude will help with that. Well I suggest the app for iphone users and suggest if you have a Latitude account add me mwatstein@gmail.com or try out latitude I know you'll like it.

Also forgot to mention that Apple is also in the process of approving another app with simular features called PlaceTrack

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Review)

I have now seen the 3 Twilight Films and don't get why people are so darn into these movies and compare it to Harry Potter. I was thinking of seeing the Last Airbender but several of my friends (Ash, Tyler R) thought the movie sucked so I decided to take my 2nd Toy Story 3 ticket to see Eclipse.

Let me preface with I was expecting this movie to have more action since there was suppose to be a war between Victoria newborn Vampire Army and the Cullens with the Wolves helping but the war was only about 15 minutes of the 2hr movie. So for you guys thinking there would be more action then the last Twilight film your mistaken.

The movie is first showing how a guy named Riley Biers which we find out later who was from Forks but now lives in Seattle was attacked by Victoria about 1 year earlier and she has him create the Vampire army to avenge the death of her real lover James. So there are lots of little scenes throughout showing him getting other Vampires and trying to teach them to get blood and not be super conspicuous.

The other parts and most of the time is spent on the proposal of Bella since she knows that she is going to marry Edward and wants to do it after graduation but hasn't said yes to the proposal. Eventhough I remember her saying yes at the end of New Moon. So lots of time are wasted on her constant Edward changing her garbage as well as Jacob being more jealous and sensing Bella also loves him so he tries to force a kiss and she trys to slug him. So lots of back in forth on the love. The only interesting parts to the movie is that Bella want to loose her virginity before she marries and Edward is "old school" and Edward and Bella go see Bella's mom for a week. Also Bella graduates high school and we learn the backstories of Rosalie and Jasper and Jasper helps organize both the vampires and the werewolves like a general. The fighting is fast and only Jacob gets hurt.

The movie is slow throughout and really was just as boring if not worse than New Moon. I only suggest this movie to women because they love the boring dribble of romance and even the hotness wasn't as hot in this film.

Happy Independence Day

Since this year has been a really bad year for our country from the bad economy to the Oil Spill in the gulf. I felt it is fitting to have the 4th of July Fireworks be over a Gulf Coast location. They might not right now be effected by oil but I assume their tourism is also down.

Further I was watching Independence Day today and wanted to bring up the quote "..."Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day! "

The fight I am bringing up is not against Aliens but against multiple topics from the combat zones that our Armed Forces are in to the Oil in the gulf to other issues that affect all Mankind..That is why I thought the quote was fitting.

Toy Story 3 (Review)

I would have posted this review earlier but Supreet wanted me not to spoil the movie by making a review so I waited but now is the time to talk about Toy Story 3. It has been 10.5 yrs since Toy Story 2 has come out and they tried to keep Any's age in the timeline. The movie starts with Andy preparing to go to college. The toys are all in the big toy chest and want to be played with so they have the sarge are the last 2 paratroopers steal Andy's cell phone and they have the cordless house phone and they call his cell phone so he has to get it. Rex is the one holding it and Andy digs through the chest and finds it and gets mad at Molly for putting it there but doesn't play with the toys. Sarge and his 2 troops decide it's hopeless and they go AWOL by flying out the window. Woody tries to instill confidence that they will be put in the attic for Andy's kids to play with them but most of them are worried because over the years they have lost their friends like Bo, Mr. Spell, Weezy and other in Yard Sales or trash and they don't want to go. Quickly Andy interrupts their meeting and Andy's mom comes in saying to Andy you need to pack for college and either items go to college or go to the attic or the trash. Andy first hesitates but then decides to work so puts the toys in a garbage bag except for Woody he puts him in the college box and starts to go to the attic to put them away but Molly needs help so Andy puts the bag down and Andy's mom trips on it thinking it's trash. Woody sees it all and calls buster but he is now old and fat so he goes it alone to save the toys from being trashed but they escape. Molly had a box of toys that were going to the Sunnyside Daycare so the toys decide to do the same. Thinking at least they will get played with and Woody tries to tell them what happened but they don't listen.

They arrive at Sunnyside and get placed in the Butterfly room and they meet all the toys and the toy in charge named Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear (Lotso for short) he is a big stuffed bear that smells like strawberry's. They also meet Ken and he and Barbie fall in love. Lotso shows the toys that they can have a lovely life and be played with forever. The toys seem happy but Lotso tells them that they must be placed in the Caterpillar room which to find out is for little kids and they abuse the toys. Woody in the meantime decides to go home to Andy but ends up at a little girls house Bonnie. Bonnie's toys are nice and we find out the real backstory to Lotso and why he treats toys like prisoners. The rest of Andy's toys decide to have Buzz to go ask Lotso to be moved back to the Butterfly room but also learns the truth of the prison that Lotso is running. Lotso and his men capture Buzz and they have a copy of his manual and decide to put him back to demo mode. So now Buzz is working for Lotso because Lotso told Buzz he is a general in Star Command and that the rest of Andy's toys are agents of Emperor Zurg..Return of the "Astro Nut".

Woody returns to Sunnyside to help break out his friends and Mrs. Potatohead knows that Andy's looking for them because her other eye is still in his room. Woody gets help from a telephone toy on how Lotso runs his security and they toys go through this elaborate plan to change Buzz back and get out. Things start off well but instead of changing Buzz back to normal they somehow get him into Spanish mode..Then they get to the garbage shute to get out but Lotso stops them and Woody tells the rest of the Sunnyside toys the truth about Lotso from his past and Lotso friend Big Baby throws him in.

Woody then get pulled in to the garbage and all of Andy's toys go in and they all end up at the county dump. Woody saves Lotso but he doesn't return the favor. Basically seemed like the toys would be destroyed but the Potatohead kids and "the claw" save the toys. They head home and Andy is happy to have them back. He then decides to put them in the attic but Woody writes a note suggesting they go to Bonnie. Andy then takes them to Bonnie and they play with the toys and he leaves for college.

The movie had me crying like a little kid for the last 20 minutes because of almost loosing the toys as well as Andy leaving and saying goodbye to them..Made me remember my childhood and how it is after you grow up. Most people will cry except for kids. I recommend to the older crowed and there was jokes that no kid would get but we would especially with how the show made Ken seem gay...I really suggest everyone see Toy Story 3

Iron Man 2 (Review)

I am IRON MAN! That is what starts Iron Man 2, the press conference from the first movie. I am a huge fan of the first movie but was disappointed in the sequel because it is not as action packed and the villain is not that strong.

The movie starts in Russia were we learn that the Arc Reactor is built by not just by Howard Stark (Tony's father) but also by a man named Anton Vanko who was a russian physicist but was deported by Howard for selling the technology. He dies in the first few minutes and his son Ivan (played by Mickey Rourke) decides to take revenge on Tony. Tony in the mean while is loving being Iron Man by having his Stark Expo in which he shows off the suit. He then is requested to Washington DC to a senate hearing to give up the Iron Man technology to the US Government but he shows that the terrorists and their countries are about 5-10 years before we have to worry about it. He even shows that is competitor HAMMER INDUSTRIES is even further behind and that he has created world peace in Iron Man.

We then learn that his own Arc Reactor that is keeping him alive is also killing him because the metal which they call (palladium) is poising his body and since he is busy trying to find a solution to not to die and being Iron Man he decides to promote Peper Potts his assistant to the position of CEO.

We then are off to Monaco where Tony decides to race in the Grand Prix but during the race Vanko who in-between has been building a arc reactor with whips to become whiplash. Tony gets attacked and becomes Iron Man via a briefcase and stops Vanko. He knows that Tony is dying because the metal and is in a french jail.

Tony then goes home and learns about Anton and the original arc reactor while Ivan is busted out of jail by Hammer to build new Suited Iron Men. However Ivan wants autonomous robot Iron Men like the ones in Star Wars. Tony then has his birthday party and gets wild and Rhodes puts on the Iron Man suit to stop tony which destroys Tony's house and Peper locks Tony out of his company for being wild.

Tony then goes on a self-distructive phase like Superman 2 did and then we meet Nick Furry (Samuel L Jackson) again and tells Tony that the arc reactor is for something even bigger his father was working on. He tells Tony that it will save his life. Tony then discovers that his father did leave clues to it and he makes a new element and saves his life.

Then back at the expo Hammer shows off is drones and they then go a muck and so does the suit that Rhoddy took because it's being controlled by Ivan. After about 15-20 minute battle from the drones and Rhoddy and then finally Ivan, Iron Man saves the day.

The problem I have with the movie is that there is no strong villain. Ivan is suppose to be the villain but seems like a weak one compared to Obadiah Stane in the first movie (Jeff Bridges). Also Justin Hammer seemed like a idiot when it came to things which I was surprised he is suppose to be a weapon maker. Furthermore, the movie was talk talk talk about really nothing. I mean Robert Downey Jr. plays the great self loving Tony Stark but the comedy and sexual innuendoes can be given without being boring. I mean most of the movie wasn't as action packed as the first. There was maybe 3 scenes of action the race, the party, then the end. I mean it could have been instead of a 2hr 4min movie only 45 minutes at the most of just action and the rest of just boring dribble that might pertain if you read all the Iron Man comics but I am not a die hard Iron Man fan. Otherwise the effects were good but I wouldn't call this the blockbuster of the summer. I would say this was another movie to prepare for the Avengers Movie that is coming in the next couple of years.

Well hope the rest of the summer movies are good.

Well it was 10/22/2006 when I hit the 100,000 mark on my Camry and now today being it's mothers day and I wouldn't have had a car without the help of my mother it is fitting to hit the 200,000 mile mark. I hit 199,999 about .2 blocks from my house so I drove around the neighborhood to the the 200,000 mark. The car is 7 years old and still works like a champ. I hope that the next 200,000 goes well.

Alice in Wonderland (Review)

Tim Burton of course likes weird versions of remakes, like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and Planet of the Apes and 9/10 times he likes to have Johnny Depp in his movies as well. This time Burton goes to Alice in Wonderland.

First off this is not totally a remake but a continuation story of the original Alice in Wonderland based on the Lewis Carroll novel and the Cartoon movie done by Walt Disney. Instead of Alice being a little girl going down the rabbit hole to a world of imagination she is being asked for her hand in marriage and goes back down the rabbit hole and believes the first time was a dream and didn't realize it was real and she goes through about the same stupid things she did before except she is in love with the Mad Hatter. She saves Wonderland again and goes back to the real world and decides to become an explorer.

The movie was in 3D and I decided to see it in 3D but not IMAX. The 3D is not 100% needed and is semi cool in the Wonderland scenes but was not a good as Avatar and the CGI looked fake but being a imagination story I didn't need believability. The acting was what got me. Johnny Depp portrayal of the mad hatter was like watch the crazy scenes in Pirates 3 of Jack Sparrow going mad and I felt like the battle would have been cool with Pirates. (lol) However there were times when he also would act like Wonka being weird, so it was a half breed characterization but really seemed like he didn't put much spin into the mad hatter. Also the English dress in the movie looked like they reused the Pirates dress and in the end Alice goes out to sea to China, It made me feel like she was Elizabeth Swan in Love with Jack but ends up with Will but in ALICE IN WONDERLAND. NO ORIGINALITY, DISNEY. The movie other than feeling like a alternate rehash of Pirates or a sub sequel was blah otherwise. I did like the Blue Caterpillar being played by Alan Rickman good role but I think snape all the time which sucks but was good at the role. I give it 2.5 stars for being something that could have been cool but turned out to be all effects which could have been better.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (Review)

Before starting this review I have to say I haven't read the book series so I was walking in with very little knowledge and expectations.

The movie starts with Percy Jackson a 12 year boy who believes he has ADHD and Dyslexia. His mother lives with the guy in the first matrix who kills everyone and is a creep in this movie too. He has a paralyzed friend who he and his friend go to the museum for a class field trip and finds out his substitute teacher is a hydra trying to kill him. His friend helps defend him and to find out he is actually not paralyzed but is a saytr. He takes him to a camp made up of Demi Gods and we find that he is the son of Poseidon. The gods believe that he has stolen Zeus lightening bolt and Hades wants the bolt to over through Zeus and Poseidon. Therefore Percy goes on a quest to hell to tell Hades that he doesn't have the bolt by facing Medusa and other challenges and learns that Hermes son is the one who stoled the bolt and wanted to blame Percy so there would be a war.

The movie was directed by Christopher Columbus who did Home Alone 1 &2 as well as the first 2 Harry Potter Movies. The forrest scenes reminded me of the same forrest from Potter and the kid looked like he was trying to have the Zach Efron look from High School Musical and has a product placement for iPod Touch which was interesting. Otherwise the movie was good but there was some long parts however in the end the hero saves the day.

I would recommend the movie if you want a cool Harry Potterish movie and if you have kids. I wanted to see a good story movie and this has it however the CG work is not 100 perfect but it is about gods and greek mythology.

Up in the Air (Review)

The new Year rings in and Akshat and David and I wanted to get together and do something. We decided to have dinner and watch a movie. After having my first experience at a Persian restaurant and having a good trout. It was time to figure out what movie and where. Both myself and Akshat had seen Avatar and I wanted to see Alvin and the Chipmunks I was told that it was a stupid movie it was decided to see a Chick Flick. I still don't know why but I had no problems. We went to the century on Howe and it was busy, but 10.25 for a movie there sucks when I could go to Regal and Paladio and have a nicer seat and not a crappy projector. I also have to say this but the 2 teens next to me were making out and were feeling each other up which I was not trying to watch them but it couldn't be helped.
I as digress Up in the Air stars George Clooney. He is a guy who works for a company to fire people when the company that people work for cannot. Think the 2 consultants from Office Space to improve productivity. Well that is George Clooney role but not to improve productivity just to fire people. He flies from city to city for about 300 days a year just firing people and doing it in a way that will not provoke a lawsuit and making people feel that they might have a chance to get another job. Everything is great until he learns going back to his headquarters in Omaha NE that they hired a young girl who has created a way to fire people over the internet and that it would save the company millions in travel expenses not to fly people around to fire people. Clooney trying to be hip says its like firing people with iChat. To show the company that it takes more he goes with the girl around showing how he fires people. She learns that it does take more and pushes Clooney to try and have a real life. He is in love with a women who flies as much as him and is like him but with a vagina as the move states. Well the iChat thing goes and then is decided it doesn't work and he is in love and decides to see the women outside of the flying scenes and finds out she is married and has kids. The movie ends with Clooney reaching his goal which is a fantasy it doesn't happen in life but making 1million miles on American Alines and is the 7th person to do it and gets special rewards.
The movie is a good story but yes it is a chick flick but at least it does have it's funny moments and for only being 1.6 hrs it goes fast. I would recommend if you want a cute and somewhat sad because of firing everyone story but it is good. And at least the 2 teens next to me thought it was good for what they were doing too.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (Review)

My aunt and I had postponed seeing this movie twice. We both were going to see it alone but since she was coming home for Christmas I suggested we should see it together and then we both got sick so had to postpone again. So on Christmas Day we decided to see it the next day. She has read all the books in the Twilight Saga and I have not expect since I was curious I did read the book synopsis on WIkipedia several weeks back. I got into Twilight on Black Friday when Wal-Mart had the first movie DVD for 5.00 so I decided to buy it since it is a Fad and wanted to see what it is all about.
New Moon picks up right after Twilight. Bella is turning 17 years old and wants her Vampire Boyfriend Edward to change her so she will not be older then him physically. He declines because he wants her to age and not have the burden of being a Vampire. Later on she is having a party with Edward and his Vampire Family and she opens her birthday card and gets a paper cut which causes Jasper to try to attack Bella, Edward stops and causes Bella to cut her arm even worse. Because he is afraid for Bella he decides to leave her and go live in Italy with the Volturi. Meanwhile Bella is really depressed that she believe that she can see Edward if she does dangerous stuff. She convinces her friend Jacob to build BMX style bikes. She notices that he has bulked up and starts to fall for him. He is upset because his guy friends are acting weird and hanging around with a guy named Sam and never wear shirts and have a tattoo. Well Bella and Jacob mid movie are about to kiss at a movie theatre and Jacob leaves saying he is not feeling well. Later on we are told that it was mono. Bella goes to investigate and sees that Jacob is outside in the rain is shirtless and has cut his hair and also has the same tattoo that his friends have and is now friends with them again. Bella then discovers that Jacob is a Werewolf and that Vampires and Werewolf's don't get along. Bella is being hunted by Victoria from the first film and Jacob and his fellow wolves help to protect her. The movie then goes to Bella going to Italy to save Edward because he thinks she is dead.
The movie is ok, yes the big thing is Jacob is hot but that only applies if your a girl. I didn't care either way if he was shirtless for most of the film. The film also reminded me of a modern day of Romeo and Juliet and which Edward tries to kill himself because he thinks Bella is dead and Bella is not. The only thing was both didn't die. The special effects like changing Jacob to a wolf were good but the movie is all about love and being 2.1 hrs it could have been shorter, I would recommend for a couple to make out or if a teenage girl wanting to see a shirtless due in it but otherwise boring though most of it.

Avatar (Review)

I decided that since everyone was on a big hype to see Avatar and since the 3D is supposed to be the thing in this movie then I should see it in IMAX 3D. The only movie I had seen in IMAX 3D was Under the Sea in Seattle and I really liked the experience. So I decided to shell out the 15 bones for it at EDH which is not a real IMAX screen and got a pair of really goofy glasses which were not as good as the ones in Seattle and sat down. I had no pre-conceved notion of what the movie was about. All I knew was it had tall blue aliens and Sigourney Weaver was in it and it was Directed by James Cameron and the movie cost a large amount of money to make.
The movie starts with a guy who is at a funeral parlor talking to 2 men about taking his brothers place on a project, he would make a large amount of money in which the world has a crappy economy like our current one so he could maybe one day be able to walk again. We then learn he is going to a world called Pandora (yes like the music service) to work for a company called RDA who is trying to mine the planet for a fuel or energy mineral to make millions on earth. So the guy whos name is Jake Sully arrives and finds out that his brother was working with the Science team to be able to talk to the local population on Pandora called the Na'vi. Sigourney is the lead scientist and really doesn't like Jake. Jake on the first day enters this chamber that looks like a Tanning Bed and his brain signals are downloaded to this Avatar that looks like a Na'vi. The 2nd day he is separated and actually ends up with the Na'vi and they almost kill him but decide since he doesn't know anything that they will teach him. He is taught by the chiefs daughter and they fall in love and he actually become a Na'vi and fights against the corporation to leave them alone.
After watching the 2.6 hr film I thought the movie was slow in some parts. The mythical world and the 3D were a good thing but some scenes the CG look so-so. The problem I had with the movie was that the whole Video Recording of his life while not in his Avatar body reminded me of Aliens and also having Sigourney and these blue creatures added to that Alien feeling but not in the evil way. The love story though reminded me so much of Titanic that I was ready to gag. (Yes I have watched Jack and Rose and the ship sinking way too much that I actually cheer when Jack dies). But as I digress the movie is not the best I have seen and it is a lot of hype, true that the technique to make the Na'vi was a new one but I wouldn't have done it that way. Also the ending is wide open for a sequel which is lame because I wouldn't want one. I would suggest taking a girl and you and her might like it but alone and being a dude it is lame.

Inglourious Basterds (Worse Movie Ever)

I am a big fan of Brad Pitt as an actor and films by Quentin Tarantino even though they are always out there. I purchased Inglourious Basterds on Blu-Ray this week thinking that it would be funny to watch Americans dropped into France to kill Nazis. Well this movie is gross and sick. The movie is mostly in German and at the end of the movie besides killing everyone and the scalping of the Nazis and cutting a swastika into the forehead of a senior German officer I was appalled and sickened by this movie. The first thing is that it is not factual of the events of the war and it is a terrible depiction of all the Jewish people who died in the Holocost. I am going to return this movie which is a first for me. I have always keeped movies I didn't like but this one is horrible. Also it is up for multiple golden globes and probably will be for the ocars, what is Hollywood thinking. I will not recommend this film to anyone. (RANT OVER)

2012 (Review)

Now most of you might have seen my review on the Paladio 16 theatre and if you haven't it is also on my blog and yelp (echusa.yelp.com) It is now time to talk about the movie I saw there.

2012 is a disaster movie that is based on the belief that the Myans predicted the end of the world in which Director Rolland Emmerich who has done Independence Day, Day after Tommorow has lots of experience in this type of film. The premise is that the earths core is heating up due to neutrinos from the sun causing the mantle to move. The movie is around the main character played by John Cusack he is a writer who has published a book but no one really buys it so he works as a limo driver. He is divorced and has 2 kids. His wife is living with a Hollywood Plastic Surgon who does boob jobs. He and his kids go camping in Yellowstone park and notice that most of the park is fenced in by the US Military to do scientific research. He then meets is nutter played by Woody Harrelson who tells him that the true meaning. Well when he is returning home he realizes that the nutter is correct and the world is coming to the end and goes to save his family. They end up getting a plane and head towards Yellowstone to get the map to where the government is supposed to be building according to the nutter a rocketship to save humanity but in actually the government in secret without telling the public has been building 7 arcs. Like the ones Noah had but made out of steel and really high tech. The plans of the government was to save the animals, goverment officials, arts and other world valuables and then who ever was rich enough could also come as well. To make a long 2.5 hr movie short after fighting they get to the arc and the people who made it are saved. What was funny is Danny Glover is the present Thomas Willson who they are portraying Barack Obama but the name Thomas Willson is actually Woodrow Willsons first name which was ironic.
The movie is a fast paced long movie and is very entertaining which is why I give it 3.5 stars however the CG work is very predominate and is not that great looking but what do you want from a Disaster movie.

Paladio 16 Theatre Review

Folsom has had only 2 options for movie theaters in the past several years. The Century 14 near the Factory outlets or the Regal 14 in EDH. I have not visited the Century since the Di Vinci Code came out and was totally not impressed with that theater because it was dirty and didn't have stadium seating and there is no refils on soda. Century did fix it's no credit card policy which impressed me. Now I am not going to rant about this theater but it could continue. The Regal in EDH has been opened since Star Wars Ep 3 and has gotten some improvements like one of the screens is now IMAX but is still clean as of today and is a premier theater in this area.

So what does that mean for the Palladio 16 which opened last Friday. I went to see 2012 at the Paladio and found 2 things before even arriving that bugged me, the parking structure has bad signage, which makes it look like there is no entrance. Also there is very little parking near the theater which means you will have to walk to it and in bad weather like last week it is not nice. I purchased a ticket under matinee price of 7.50 and received basically a crappy piece of paper. I walked into the theater out found that they are a Pepsi shop and that their prices were equivalent to the rest of the theaters but the soda size was not a plastic cup but a paper. Also when you buy popcorn they do not butter it and have a small butter station in which one of the sides were out of butter but could see a health problem in the future of gross things with butter. The crappy ticket doesn't even tell you which screen your movie is at so you have to ask one of the 2 ticket takers on either side of the butter station on which screen is the movie at. They are nice to tell you. This theater also has a weird layout in which 4 screens are straight head down the hall from the ticket taker and the rest of the 8 are to the left half way down the hall. Like a M-shape is this theater design. I then entered the auditorium and saw that they must of rushed to finish the theater because there was a part of the screen that was not flat which was strange. I thought the seats were very well padded but where narrower then the other theaters I have been to. The Palladio 16 is owned by Cinema West out of Petaluma and they don't have that fancy of stuff every logo is from a national cinema company and has a copyright which was annoying and they don't show things like the "20" which regal and century does but just a bunch of local ads. This theater even showed the Dolby, Technicolor and DLP official logos before the movie which was also weird. The sound and the picture was nice for a DLP system. This theater is trying to automate the start of the movie like I have seen in Los Angeles but there system failed. Now here is the biggest problem, I was in Auditorium 1 and the mens room is on the other side of the theater and you have to go past both ticket takers to use the restroom and I had to have my ticket to use it. That was dumb.

After watching a very good movie, I decided that I will continue to watch movies at Regal in EDH for several reasons.
1. Points, I get points for being a regal member which is free and get to have free sodas and popcorn and movies for going to the movies.
2. $1 POPCORN tuesday, I hate paying $5 for a small popcorn but regal used to give it for free but now $1.
3. I don't have parking problems even when busy
4. Always Clean and they put the butter on
5. COKE ZERO I love diet Pepsi to but Coke Zero is better and in a plastic cup
6. Going to the bathroom without problems. I recommend for people to try out this theatre but don't be WOW'ed by it.

Star Trek (Review)

Looking back at my site I cannot believe that Star Trek 10 (Nemesis) was released and I blogged about the movie. Nemesis Review "Star Trek" aka Star Trek 11 or Reboot is a really interesting story. Before I continue let me preface that this movie for a die hard trekkie must do one thing first. Read Star Trek Countdown Amazon it explains the backstory before seeing the movie on the villan Nero and all the events that lead upto this movie. Now for the Non-Trekkies this movie is fine by itself. The movie at 2 hrs and 6 minutes is the longest trek yet. It also is the most different trek in which trekkies might not like, however will still believe that it is trek. Starting off we meet a Romulan named Nero who is from the Future, he attacks the USS Kelvin under the command of Captain Robau and the ship is attacked. He turns over Command to George Kirk (James Kirk Father) the Kelvin is destroyed but Jim is born. Then we meet Spock as a child and kirk as a child and then move on to adulthood. We lean that Spock lets his foolish Human Emotions interfere with is Vulcan Logic. Whereas Kirk is totally wild and fly's by the seat of his pants. Well with lots of twists and turns Kirk becomes the Captain of the enterprise and Nero is stopped. (I don't want to give the whole movie away). Here is my evaluation, I am giving it 4.5 out of 5 because it is really good even though it replaces the last 40 years of Star Trek of a future that is now unwritten. The Acting and Special Effects were great the only concern with the new cast is Simon Pegg (Scotty) he acts more wierd than I remember scotty from the TOS days. However I have to give Karl Urban & Anton Yelchin for sounding and really acting like their previous counterparts. I also love the quotes that made me appreciate the last 40 years of trek. Overall great move and might be the hit of the summer, however Harry Potter is in July.

MacOS Leopard

When Apple released Leopard on friday night I was at our local chapter ACM lan party. When I was getting pizza for the party which was at 7:00 pm, I stopped at the Arden Apple Store. The line from the photo I took was over 2 hrs long. I cannot believe that people would wait just for an updated OS. I finally did buy Leopard at my local bookstore with no lines and half the price. It has been about 2 months since my last post. I have been awfully busy during these months. First, I was in summer school taking a History class for GE. The class was informative and very stimulating on how much our lives are controlled by the media. After the class finished I had to prepare for what has been keeping me busy the most.

I was planning a trip for myself and 10 others to Defcon. If you’re not a nerd your probably asking what is Defcon. Defcon is a convention that occurs every year in Las Vegas. It is a convention in which Hackers come together to discussion items of computer and internet security. Since this semester is my last at full time status, I am taking on an extra responsibility in being the president of the local ACM student chapter. Therefore, being president means that I had to plan the trip. It was an interesting conference in which I learned a lot of information from various topics. These topics included protecting a computer/network from Malware to FCC selling the 700 MHz range of whitespace. The trip was not just about the conference; I caught a show at Mandalay Bay. Additionally went back to the Star Trek Experience for their behind the scenes tour. If you’re interested in seeing the pictures from the trip click here.

In addition there were some problems that aroused while I was on the trip. The problem was that someone hacked into my paypal account and managed to steal 200+ dollars from me. However, I successfully managed to resolve this issue with no major problem.

Furthermore, my aunt retired from DOD as a teacher and is living in Washington State. In addition my father’s cousin came to Sacramento for the first time to visit. I have been mostly busy cleaning up the house which is nearly completed. Furthermore, I still have time to go to the theatre to watch movies. I recently saw Rush Hour 3 and the Simpson Movie both films were funny. With 2 weeks until the start of the new semester to go I still have a lot to finish around the house.

Finally, I wanted to say have a good finish to the summer and give one shout out. The shout out is to my friend Sean. Sean good luck in Colorado and I hope you enjoy it there and your new Mac mini.

Ocean's 13 (Review)

About 1.5 years has passed since Oceans 12 came out. In Oceans 13 we find out that Rubin has went into partnership with William Bank (Al Pacino) and Bank has decided after he uses Rubin's connections for a new hotel, to cut Rubin out of the deal. Also has Rubin sign over the land to Bank so that he owns everything, and Rubin uses that since they both shook Sinatra's hand he shouldn't be double crossed, but Bank says fuck Sinatra. So being betrayed and ruined Rubin has a heart attack. So Danny Ocean and his crew decide to get revenge for Rubin. They decide to make it so that Bank's hotel is a loss. Instead of just plain old robbing it like they did to Benedict they decide to rig everything so everyone wins. The only problem is the security system is a computer that cannot be hacked nor beaten. It checks pupil dilation and heart rate based on winnings and also checks the computer odds from the machines and tables. So it causes a problem. Ocean's team figures out that they can create a seismic tremor and that the building would act like a tuning fork and shut down the computer for 3 minutes. The problem is the drill they bought broke, so they turn to Terry Benedict for the money. Benedict wanted one thing besides the money back with 50% interest, he wanted Ocean to steal Bank's 5 Diamond Hotel award necklaces, which Bank got for every other property he owned. Ocean agrees and they use Benedict to rope in Bank for a part of the plan. Well after all the usual they got away with the diamonds and the money and gave Rubin another piece of property and even paid back Benedict and look for a Oprah appearance. This new Ocean's movie was better than 12 but used people from 12 to make it happen. So keep that in mind. I still think that Ocean's 11 is the best movie yet but this is a close second and the only reason why is that some scenes were boring but not that boring.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Review)

So its been about a year since the last adventure of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. So as we know Capt Jack Sparrow was lost to Davey Jones locker and Captn. Barbosa is alive. This 3 hour movie is a lot better than the last Pirates. First we find out that we are still in the orient and Barbosa needs the 9 Pirate lords to be able to release clypso which is the witch who brought back Barbosa and inorder to have the pirate lords Jack Sparrow is one of them. So they travel to Davey Jones locker to retireve Jack and then there are lots of subplots and backstabbing in trades. We also know that Lord Beckett and the East India Company have Davey Jones' heart and is giving Davey Jones' orders. Well lets just say, Jack is alive and rides off into the sunset to find the fountain of youth leaving the saga open for another movie. While Davey Jones dies, clypso is freed, Elizabeth is a pirate captain and pirate king. Will Turner is the new captian of the flying dutchman and Lord Beckett is killed. Also Will and Elizabeth are married by Barbosa during the major fight. The movie has lots of comic re-leaf because jack has muliple personalities. Also the battle scenes are vast and Elizabeth even gives a fight scene speach that sounded like it came from Independece Day. The movie is long but it does go fast and is in my opinion the best pirates movie so far.

Spider-Man 3 (Review)

Spider Man 3, the whole 2 years that this film has been done and reshot might have been better with the test audiences but still boring in most parts. The CGI work that sony does for these movies is great but like the last two spider man's not much in plot. This movie starts with Peter Parker going to ask Mary Jane to marry him. Mary Jane is in a broadway play but then loses the part because of bad reviews. Peter is at an all time high because he is going to get the key's to the city as Spider Man. (Look for Spider Man creator Stan Lee talking to Peter at Time Square) First Peter fights his best friend Harry Osborn (AKA Gobilin Jr) and Harry loses and then has amnesia. Then Spider man learns that his uncles killer is not the man he killed in Spider Man 1 but it is Flint Marko the sand man creature they fight and Spider man thinks he wins there as well. Then this goo from a meteor comes down to earth and attaches itself to Peter which helps him fight Osborn again and Flint Marko and turns him to evil. He resists and Eddie Brock another photographer for the Daily Bugle looses his job and then becomes evil Venom. The Sand Man and Venom capture Mary Jane and Peter and Osborn hook up to fight them. Venom is killed Goblin/Osborn is killed and Sand man is forgiven and Peter and Mary Jane dance lovely off the screen. The movie seemed to be based on Othello, Shakespeares ideas that a man at his high point then has something major happen looses everything then is gaining back then looses again but in Othello it stays that way, whereas Spider man actually goes back to normal but it leaves open the idea of Spider man 4. This franchise will stay especially with marketing but the movies are Blah. Well that is my first blockbuster for the summer. Look forward to Shrek 3, Simpsons, Live Free Die Hard, Harry Potter: Order of the Pheonix, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Ocean's Thirteen, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. So I will be at the theatre alot. Until then 2 more weeks of school to go.

More Jail Time For Me

Well I thought I was going to graduate this coming fall. I even filled out my graduation petition. I am doing well in 90% of my classes. But then Wham!!! I found out that I am missing 1 GE Upper Division course. I cannot believe that I missed that. I went to GE Advising 2 time in the last 2 years and they said my GE was done but then someone in my Department asked what Upper Division GE courses did I take. I told him about 1 but I didn't know if I told another. Well I will take that and probably repeated classes. Que Sara!!!

[Updated] I decided to take the GE class during the summer so I should still graduate on time. Well hope things get better.

TMNT (Review)

(TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
Ok so in the 80's I was a young boy and had my turtle pajama's and was a real big fan of the turtles. I remeber them like yesterday, it least it wasn't gay like Power Rangers. So getting back to turtles I loved them, especially Michaelango. I liked that he was the goofball and loved pizza. He always reminds me of Bart Simpson, cawabunga. (LOL) So after the 3 turtle films and 20 years the turtles are back, now it isn't live action like the previous movies nor is it cartoon like the original but it's CGI. The other thing with these turtles is the voices. First Donatello and Michaelango sound the same and so does April Oneil but Raphael and Splinter as well as Casey didn't sound the same at all. Leonardo was the mystery because in some senes he sounded like the old Leo but in others he sounded different. This turtles movie starts a couple of years after the last turtle movie and Leo is in South America learning to be a better leader and April comes down to get some archilogical statue and convinces Leo to come back to New York. Max Winters is a rich general who lived 3,000 years ago and opened some dimentional portal that turned his generals to stone and immortal and released 13 monsters which he wants to reverse. The turtles along with the footclan (AKA Shredder's Soldiers) Help this Winters guy reverse what he did. The movie has some good action and some action that looked like combinations of the Matrix and LOTR. It was interesting seeing Patrick Stewart play this Winters character and the movie was enjoying not as good as turtles 1+2 but a lot better than 3.

Peaceful Warrior (Review)

The other day when buying my weekly movies Best Buy had a coupon to see Peaceful Warrior free this weekend. All I had to do was go online and print the movie stubs. I just got back and thought this movie was inspiring. It must be my day for Inspiring movies because I also watched the "Pursuit of Happyness" yes I said Happyness not spelled right but the movie explains why. Getting back to Peaceful Warrior, it is a movie about a UC Berkley Gymnast about my age who drinks a lot, fucks anytime he wants and lives a carefree life. His only goal is to win the gold at the olympics and is close to doing so. Until he met Socrates (Nick Note) and learned that life doesn't have to be about being the best and that all that junk doesn't matter, what matters is that your passion and drive to the process of getting your dream is more important. The guy is then in a motorcyle accident and then has to recover which is what most of the movie is about. The transition from a life of no meaning or purpose to a life of total purpose and meaning. The movie is boring in some parts but is really emotional. I am not saying chick flick but it is interesting, would recommend. Well I am planning to end my week with TMNT so until tomorrow's review.

ACM trip to LLNL

Well yesterday I went with ACM which stands for the Association of Computing Machinery down to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory I woke up at 5:00 am and left the house at 5:30. I got to Sac State at 6:30 am and got to Livermore at 8:30. We got to see a gigantic lazer that takes the entire building that is about 5 floors and is the size of gigantic wherehouse.

After we went through the NIF building to see the entire lazer we got to then learn more about VOIP and also some information about BioInformatics then after that we got to see Bluegene/L which is a supercomputer that IBM made that has 280.6 teraFLOPS of processing power. We got to touch it and also take a photo which we might nor might not get so I am using a stock photo.

After seening bluegene we had a Q&A about clustered computing since we are going to be getting two Itanium computers which we will used a unmanaged switch and we are trying to see what we are going to create to allow to be run on the Itaniums as a cluster. After that we drove home. I really was impressed with the tour and hope to go again.

Well as you can see I am writting this post at Cosumnes River College which is a great way to celebrate a birthday. I was sick with the flu around christmas and got all better except for a cough about 2 weeks ago then the cough stoped yesterday and today I feel like I am sick with the flu again. So I sleeped alot today and didn't do much, my only class is Physics tonight in about 30 min so I am working on a lab report. I probably will go home and go straight to bed. So once again happy birthday to me. Oh also kudos to Sean, Ann and Aaron for wishing me a happy birthday at facebook.

First Day of School

Well after about 3 weeks of relaxation I am back to school or at least 2 more hrs until. Maybe some people noticed but I updated my site today to show the classes I am taking this semester and updated my about me page. Since I am taking a class at Cosumnes River College it is fitting that I am blogging in their computer lab. I will be still having fun until school restarts fully the day before my birthday (hint hint). As I reflect back this last year I have several things that I accomplished. First I am out of credit card debt which I had about 5,000 worth. Also recvd 10,000 which is now at 3,000 from a college bond that was from my grandma. Also filed my petition to graduate which to me is the reminder that I am almost done with the 6 yrs of CSUS, I also will be happy when the server program that I started but then was worked on by teams and I have to configure will be done. I hope that 2007 will be busy and bring me the biggest gift of all, GRADUATION.

Rocky Balboa (Review)

Yo this is Marcus reporting about the new movie which would be the 6th Rocky entitled Rocky Balboa. The only problem with this review is someone knocked out the power at the movie theater about 1/2 way throughout the film and I didn't have much to talk about since most of it is about feelings and not much went on. SO that is why I am not giving any stars and plan to go back tonight and re-watch the entire film since I got a pass to do it. Well until then This is my review of Rocky Balboa (NOTHING)

[Update, 12/31/06] I know that it has been a couple of days since I said that I couldn't see the movie due to power failure but I went back to the theater and watched the movie. Rocky Balboa starts at Adrian's tombstone and Rocky is at the 3rd anniversary of her death, which he calls Woman Cancer. He and Pauly then go to all the places Rocky and Adrian went when they meet, IE the pet store, the ice rink and Rocky's old apartment. Rocky now owns a restaurant called Adrian's which serves Italian food, run by Mexicans. Pauly still works at the meat market and Rocky's son works for it seems like an investment firm. Robert and Rocky are not speaking that much because Robert believes his father casts a large shadow. We also meet Mason Dixon the current heavyweight champion who is hated because he hasn't ever had a drawn out dogfight. Well ESPN decides to take an idea which was done when Joe Luis and Mohammad Ali fought years ago about having a virtual fight between Mason and Rocky. The computer believes Rocky would win. Well Rocky starts to think he might have more fighting in him since his beast is upset over Adrian's death. So Rocky gets a License to fight but his thoughts are only small fights. Well Mason's managers thinking about money approach Rocky to fight Mason as a charity exhibition fight. Well not to get into specifics people thought that Rocky would go down in the first or second round but look to the original rocky against appolo for the outcome of the fight. Then he tells Pauly that his beast is gone then Rocky goes back to Adrian's grave and the walks away waving then fades out. Also I forgot to mention Rocky has a thing for Little Marrie which I believe we meet in one of the rocky movies where she said Screw you Creepo. Well she is grown and has a kid of her own called Steps which Rocky takes under his wing like the next movie might use Steps. I don't know but that is what people of the net believe. Well I thought that this rocky was a great movie better than Rocky 5 but my favorite is still rocky 4. Then this rocky, the only thing I wished was during the fight there were more flashbacks.

Merry Christmas

I know that it is late on Christmas night and everyone is probably had a good Christmas with lots of gifts and time with their families. So lets start since its been a while since I blogged.
The school semester ended on a good note, I got currently and A in networking and 2 C's in my advanced database class and my graphics programming class which was very hard. My last class should be a C but I will have to wait until after the holidays.
I went to my grandma's Friday and took her out to lunch for Christmas as well as giving her a gift certificate to JCPenny's as well as bottle of her favorite wine and a bottle of Alcoholic Eggnog. She inturn gave me and my father a generous some of money which I was thankful for especially lately when I spent about 2,000 for fixing my Car. Since my Wii was my gift the only thing I did this morning was download Super Mario Brothers for my Wii via virtual counsel. I meet the other day a friend who I haven't seen since High School and meet his girlfriend, plan to take him to lunch this new year.
Today since I already saw family was mostly spent looking at things with my father at Walgreens which he wanted for Christmas. I am planning to see Rocky Balboa tomorrow and also do some holiday shopping. Well now that everyone is caught up and also forgot to mention that knowing the title to Year 7's book of Harry Potter was a real treat, I hope that everyone had peace on earth and a very Merry Christmas.

James Kim was well respected by me. Since Tivo started showing Cnet reports weekly I would only watch to see what James Kim would say. First for those who don't know, James Kim was Senior Editior of MP3 and Digital Audio at CNET.com which his soul purpose was to test and review all the consumer electronic MP3 players. Kim used to be on Tech TV as a Gadget gooroo. Kim's reports were usually correct and well done. Kim was comming back from Oregon to California with his wife and two children when they were trapped in the snow, Kim went to get help and according to the news he walked for about 8 miles to be only one mile from his family after trying to get help. In the tech community Kim was well respected and I really will miss his insight. My thoughts go out to his family since they all are in San Francisco. Well ending November and entering December means there is a big push for finals. Teachers always expect a lot of stuff and I am tired. First of all I am sitting in my database class ready to take a nap and really cannot stay awake and then I have a test later today in my Computer theory as well as meet a partner to work on code for our Computer Graphic Games coding class during my break and the I go take the test then go to ACM and listen to what is new with the club then go and then go to my Networking class that is completly boring then at 7:00-9:00 tonight work on code for Computer Graphic game class then go to country club and bowl from 9:30-Midnight with ACM then go to sleep then tomorrow back here around 9:00 to meet my partner for Networking then work probably til 3 then stay around until 5 then go to ACM linux install night to volunteer until around Midnight the Saturday get my car fixed. What I am blagging about is that I have no time to relax or slow down and wish I could, so that is why I am tired.

Microsoft Truck visits

Well we as CSUS students get the rare opertunity to see Microsofts truck for promoting new technologies, IE (VISTA,OFFICE,XBOX,ZUNE) everything Microsoft stands for. Well I got to see the truck and eventhough it was nice in the way it was setup the knowledge of the Microsoft reps were to the knowledge of sales people and that the information at the truck was sketchy even in licensing information. Well I might have more to report after the semminars finish.

Update [Tuesday 6:15] Ok so I posted a picture which said wii play on a tee shirt so what in the crap is that all about. Well this last weekend I camped for a Nintendo wii at walmart from 6:00pm saturday to 4:00am sunday and switched with my dad then went to costco from 4:30am to 10:00am to get another wii. So now I have 2 wii's which I just sold one to a guy I know to be nice otherwise I was going to return it, the only reason I did that is to make sure I got one. Well I am going to have a nice thanksgiving. Well until my next post which should be this thanksgiving but probably not so Happy Thanksgiving.

Casino Royale (Review)

Well what can I say about Bond...James Bond. Casino Royale was the first book of Ian Flemming about James Bond which is suppose to show how James Bond got the status of 007. Well if you want to know the rest of the plot they way it is suppose to be then see the Wikipedia Article

but the movie tries to follow the plot but in a bad way. First, being a fan of Bond I am used to a normality of how the movies go but in this movie things were quite different. The gun barrel looked digital and so did the oozing blood which went to the credits which were boring and so was the title theme song by Chris Cornell named You Know My Name which was mostly a bunch of cards with bond kicking the crap out of people, no women which was unusual. The movie is about a man named Le Chiffre who gets money from Africa to manipulate the stocks of an airline company by blowing up a new plane which would leave them in ruins. But Bond interferes and stops the explosion of the plane so Le Chiffre holds a game at Casino Royale of Poker where James meets Felix Lighter which in this movie is black. James wins and then learns that is love Vesper Lynd is playing both sides. The movie has a lot of dull moments and some action but not the typical of Bond, the romance was not there and the story was choppy as well as how could bond just gotten is 00 status and its 2006 so how can that be. Well the end was left for the sequal but overall I was not impressed. On the contrary the new Bond Daniel Craig was not bad of an actor but they are really trying to make him the next Sean Connery.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (Review)

A week before thanksgiving and I am sick of school I decided to have a little fun by going and seeing Santa Clause 3. In this installment Santa & the Misses are going to have a baby and Mrs. Clause wants to see her folks so Santa decides to have them but in the meantime Jack Frost is causing trouble because he doesn't have a holiday. We find out that there is an escape clause and all Santa has to do is get his magic snow globe and say he doesn't want to be Santa. So Jack Frost tricks Santa into activating the escape clause which shows us why Scott Calivin's life was better as Santa. Well the movie was interesting and was not happy to see the cheesy ideas that were in Santa Clause 2 back in this film but they did use the footage from SC1 which was when Scott found the suit. The movie being that it is Disney does have a happy ending. The one thing I wished is that the alternate reality should have been longer and also Bernard is not in the story, and Curtis is now head elf. Well I think it is better than 2 but 1 is still the best. Happy Holidays, stay tune for Friday's 007 Casino Royale Review.

Ubuntu!!

Ok at the request of Kyle and Sean. I finally got the live CD for Ubuntu from Kyle. Ubuntu is Linux which is suppose to be easy for people like me who know Windows and MacOS and be able to work with no real problems. Well I was really interested in the visual ability that Vista is not offering also some more stability. So since I wanted to install it on my laptop I wanted to work with vista. Well vista is a pain, I had to use my Xp boot cd to fix my drive every time I changed the drive partition but now its up and kyle has been showing me things and I do like some ideas but I also think in a windows world. Lets see where things go.

Tassimo Machine

This weekend my father and I bought a Tassimo Machine that is made by Braun. The machine makes coffee and Tea and Hot Chocolate by single serve packets called TDisks. I first told my father about this machine when Martha Stewart showed it on her apprentice show about a year ago. Since most of you are aware I hate coffee but with this machine I can simply make Hot Chocolate or tea with in a minute. I recommend this machine to anyone who likes quick easy to use coffee or drink machines and might be a good coffee but I would have to ask the experts because I don't know what good coffee is. Well as most of you don't know but I went to OSH 2 weeks ago to see Richard Karn (Al, Home Improvement) and there I got two tickets from Y92.5 to the RiverCats Game and this last monday we went to the ballgame. The tickets were on the firstbase line and It was fun. The RiverCats were playing the Tucson Sidewinders and in the first inning Tucson scored 6 runs and the RiverCats never regained losing the game 7-4 oh well. My father and I had at lot of fun at the game and am happy to attend.

World Trade Center (Review)

9/11/01 what a tragic day and now 5 years later Oliver stone made a movie about WTC (World Trade Center) The movie starrs Nick Cage as John McLoughlin and Michael Pena as Will Jemino, which are 2 port authority cops. The movie starts with just another day in NY and then Jemino is called back to the station and McLoughlin assigns some of his cops to check out the trade center since the first tower was attacked. They believed it was like the attack in 1993 so they get down to the tower and then get their supplies and then between tower 1 and 2 in the concourse the building collapses but we don't see it colapse. Then after being burried under the rubble the second tower collapses then the rest of the movie is about Jemino and McLoughlin trying to keep each other alive while trapped by the rubble. It shows their families and that is about it. I thought that the movie really didn't show that much of a tear jerker because the two cops didn't get anyone out of the Towers nor did Director Oliver Stone show the Trade Center getting hit by the planes nor colapsing just sounds and rubble. I wished this movie showed more heroics like the NYPD and Fire and Port Authority acutally did in life which would have been more accurate but it is a good start to talk about that tragic day.

2006-2007 VW Rabbit

So it has been almost 30 years since my father has owned a VW Rabbit and just this month VW has announced and released instead of a Golf which has been in Germany and what the Rabbit is actually but has reintroduced the Rabbit. So Dad and I test drove one tonight. We went to Niello VW about 15 miles from the house and all I have to say is what a crappy car. I am very spoiled with my 03 Camry with all the extras and this car had verry little with it also when driving it, it felt like driving a Passat or a Jetta which to me suck. My father was also disappointed with the car and also wished it had Naviagion as well as better bells and whistles. I know that my father wants to buy one like his 78 because that was the car that my mother and father met with. I think it is a missing my mom and midlife thing. Oh well all I have to say is I really want an Acura RL all the more.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Review)

Yo ho, Yo ho a boring movie for me. Ha ha. Well I went to see the 2nd pirates today with my aunt and this movie with a runtime of 2.5 hrs is very long and not as much action as the first. The movie starts with Will and Elizabeth going to get married but we find out that the new East India trading company man wants Capt. Jack's compass to find the heart of Davy Jones. We found out the reason that Jack is the Capt. of the Black Pearl is because of Davy Jones. Most of this movie is building up to from Will trying to find Jack to then Will to his father Bootstrap Bill. As well as Admrl. Norington trying to get his life back because he is now a useless drunk for not capturing Jack in the first movie. The sad part of this movie is that they lead you with a long boring build up to about 30 minutes then it is very much action as well as Jack dies or so we think as well as everyone is miserable and Capt. Barbosa is still alive. Which is the cliffhanger for the 3rd movie next year. It sceamed more like the Matrix Trilogy is their guide of how this movie went which we all know based on that trilogy Neo saved the day and didn't die so in this one Jack saves the day also. Maybe or maybe not. We will have to see. I suggest watching it for the effects but the story is a good continuation but it is boring until the end.

Superman Returns (Review)

In a one word review of superman returns would be "boring" with the run time of 2.5 hrs it was so boring that I almost fell asleep at the theatre. Superman Returns is about superman returning to earth after being gone for 5 years. The reason is that he believed that Krypton was still there based on information from astronomers. Well what I like about the movie is that they do give lots of credit to the previous movies like the intro credits were very much like the Christopher Reeves films also having the George Reeve Jimmy Olson and Lois Lane in the movie for 2 scenes was touching and having Perry White played by Frank Langella say "Great Cesars Ghost" and Lois still trying to smoke and Lex Luther stealing the Kryptonite from that originally came Addis Ababa but now in the Metropolis Museum and other little inside superman jokes. The problem with this movie which was very supprising is it Bryan Singer film the director of Xmen made this movie worry more about the catching up and the recreating of scenes that the movie didn't have much action or really a great plot. I believe that the film did have great justice to Christopher Reeves and the cast in the 70's but this superman is just too long.

Graduation on the SLO front

Well last Saturday my best friend Sean had his graduation ceremony at CalPoly San Luis Obispo. I went down friday and stayed at his place in San Luis and saturday I went to the graduation. I thought that the keynote speaker was boring and then after seeing him graduate and getting burned in the face we went to dinner at a great restaurant in Cambria called Brambles. I would definatly recommend this restaurant then after dinner and opening the gifts I went back to the apt and then came home the next morning. I was proud of Sean for graduating and hope that everyone enjoys the pictures.

Microsoft Office 2007 (Review)

Well after downloading the 300 MB file from microsoft and trying to install it 3 times I finaly got the Microsoft Office 2007 Beta to work. The first change is the interface of the programs. I am currently using the Windows Vista theme that it comes with. The first problem that I noticed when running it is that all old files are run in compatability mode because this new office is designed in XML with the .Net framework, so old word files that were .doc are not .docx also what I have noticed after running it for only two days is that it is crappy in everyday work. I cannot find two simple things that should be there and have no clue on how to get to it. One is the double spacing, microsoft has spacing my pixle size not by single, double or whatever you want. Also I noticed when manipulating photos in word, or Powerpoint you cannot change size by percentage anymore. There are some handy features in each program like saving things to different formats are easier, also making your document to stand out is easier like making a photo 3d. The problem I see is that this office is really GUI based and not easy to use everyday. Also when I opened an old powerpoint I was not able to see some of my old animated Gifs working so that could be a translation error. Also in Access the VBA code that runs my Database that I just finnished will run if you approve the Microsoft Trust Center approval because VBA can cause Virusus according to Microsoft. I would if you want to try it the go ahead. The beta is good until Febuary 2007 then you have to reinstall the previous version of Office. To learn more about office click here

X3: The Last Stand (Review)

Now that school is over I wanted to continue going to watch movies at the theatre so I went and saw X3: The Last Stand. I love the X-Men series of movies because Prof. Xavier is played by Patrick Stewart. Well first off, he dies in this movie, as well as Cyclops and Jean Gray. The movie starts with Prof. X and Magneto going to Jean's house 20 years before and getting her to go to Prof. Xavier's school. We then switch to the current day and learn that a company called Worthington Pharmaceuticals has created a cure that suppresses the mutant gene. Well Magneto doesn't believe that Mutants should bow down and take the cure because there is nothing wrong with them, so he decides to go to war. Well the X-Men are still grieving from Jeans death in X2, especially Scott so he goes back to Alkali Lake and Jean comes out of the lake, they have a passionate kiss and he dies. Then the X-men bring her back to the school and we found out that Jean has 2 personalities, 1 is Jean, and the other is called "The Phoenix" which Xavier suppressed because the Phoenix is like evil. So the cure is stored at Alcatraz and the climax is Magneto attacks Alcatraz and the X-men stop him and use the cure on Magneto. The bad part of this movie is that they showed that Magneto still has some power which means the cure doesn't totally work so they left it open for X4. Otherwise the movie is not as fast or strong as the last more on a back-story then one big climax but still a good movie.

Memorial Day

Even though we as Americans might disagree on why they are there, they are still there so we need to on this Memorial Day celebrate the ideals of America to keep us free, and cherish our loved ones that have died in the name of protecting our country and are still fighting for our country. New TV/Finals

My old bedroom tv which was made by Toshiba was a piece of crap and after having it for 3 years Toshiba wasn't going to fix it anymore eventhough I had an extended warrenty they told me that they authorized for it to be returned to the retailer that I bought it from. I bought it at Costco before they changed their rules so Costco took it back eventhough I got approval from Toshiba. To make a long story short, I went after returning the Toshiba to buy a Sony KD-34XBR970 which has a ATSC tuner built in with QAM so I am getting all the Hi-Def channels for over the air. This TV is very sexy and I am very impressed. I recommend it if shopping for a TV this is the best Tube tv available and only one model would beat it which is the last years model because has more features but has lots of problems.
Now turning from the TV to Finals I got my grades for the semester which wasn't my finest work but oh well, I got a B- in Software Engineering, C+ in Database Management, C in Advanced Data Structures & a D in Computing Theory. I also didn't take my final in Physics so I got an F so I know I got to retake it.

DΛ Vinci Code (Review)

I had my group presentation yesterday in my software enginnering class and decided that Physics sucks so I didn't take my final but that is ok I am retaking it in the fall. I had a buy one get one free so I took my father to see DΛ Vinci code, which was very interesting, I am not a relgious man but I question relgion more after seeing this movie. I can see why it is being considered contraversial from the catholics as well as christian faiths. I went online after seeing the movie to look at the last supper by DΛ Vinci and the movie is correct there might well be a hidden message that I never thought of before. The movie is long at 2.5 hrs so be prepared but I is intereguing, I never read the book but the movie does explain what is going on. Basically for people who never heard anything about it The Louvre Museum curator was shot so he positioned himself like Vitruvian Man by DΛ Vinci and left clues to the killer as well as religon. Tom Hanks is blamed for the murder and is brought in for his skills in symbols. We go through the rabbit hole and find the holy grail, It is a must see not just as a movie but to question faith.

Poseidon (Review)

After having my hardest final last night I needed some time to unwind so I decided to go see Poseidon, first because I am a fan of the Poseidon Aventure which was produced by Irwin Allen like Towering Inferno but because of getting the bonus points for my regal card as well as free popcorn. So I just finished watching the movie and currently sitting in lab waiting for my 131 partners so heres the low down on this movie. It sucks. I hate that the computer graphics were more important then the acting in this film. There were multiple scenes I thought I was watching Titanic again with how the ship went to Starboard and how it sunk. This movie stars Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas & Richard Dreyfuss and the SS.Poseidon is at sea and at the stoke of midnight new years the ship is struck by a gigantic wave and the ship turns over and people try to escape. The bad part of this movie is the water scenes were very fake, very little interesting dialoge and if you watched the 1972 film then you would know when people would die. What can I say this movie is boring and not worth it for a remake. All I can say is I am planning to see only 3 more movies this summer which will be The Da Vinci Code, X3:The Last Stand, & Superman:Returns I hope these will be better than this movie eventhough 2 are sequals.

I was reading at Gizmodo.com that nintendo was showcasing accessories for their new Wii and this picture was taken at the E3 conference, it looks like a modernized shotgun like the one that was in the NES 21 years ago when NES was great I know that Wii will play old NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube games but common bring back the duckhunt gun as well as duckhunt what next the powerglove or the running mat for that Olympic game. I know that the Wii will use my gamecube controller and memory cards as well as SD cards but I cannot belive that things come full circle. I am planning to get the Wii for playing old Mario but never thought about duckhunt, well for a computer scientist who loves technology things from the past still are great espcially when its reinvented and is still the same thing. M:I:3 (Review)

Continuing my Summer Movie fest and with time last night I went and saw the 8:00 showing of M:i:III I had a free ticket so I went, the theatre was packed I was lucky to get a seat. So the movie starts with Tom Cruise beaten up and getting threatened to loose a woman he cares about and is given to the count of ten or she dies and we reach 10 and the gun fires which queues the credits. We then are then in a house with Tom and that same girl in which we find out that he is going to get married to her, he also told the family that he works for the Department of Transportation. We find out that actually he hasn't been on a mission in a while and has been training agents. When one of his pupils named Lindsay is kidnapped on assignment Ethan goes in to rescue her but fails and finds out that she was trailing Owen Davian a international weapons and info provider played by Philip Symore Hoffman. Ethan captures Davian but he escapes and there is a major twist but he captures Ethan's wife and must get a weapon called "The rabbits foot" and Ethan gets it but we go back to the begining of the movie and find out she doesn't die, then Ethan is dying by a implanted bomb in his head so his wife shocks im to death. Then has a hard time brining him back to life. The movie ends with Ethan going on his honeymoon. The movie had lots of interesting action and gadets and twists like the first film but had some stuipid things like the notion of Ethan dying or his wife. Also there was some slow parts but that's ok. The funny thing is that Laurence Fishborne is playing the IMF director and there is a scene when he thinks Ethan is out of line and is retraining him and how Fishborne acted was like Agent smith in the matrix otherwise I would say this mission is a lot better than the last but not as good as original.

The Sacramento Kings 2005-2006 Season

The Sacramento Kings 2005-2006 Season has come to a close. With this years 1st round series being the World Champion San Antionio Spurs the Kings lost Game6 at Arco Arena with a score 105-83. I knew that this years Kings team wouldn't make it out of the first round way before playoffs started but when we almost won Game 2 and did win Games 3+4 I thought that we could win the series. The Kings had their chance to go up 3 games to 2 in game 5 but lost like always and just sucked tonight. I want to thank the league for at least giving us two wins this year than a single win or a sweep but still sucks. Last year I said on May 4 the same thing about the end of the season and this year is no better. We made a lot of changes this year which I believe have helped the kings like getting Bonzi Wells and Ron Artest. If it wasn't for those trades the Kings wouldn't even make the playoffs this year. I am sick and tired of Sacramento never given the chance or the oppertunity to win a championship because of money. I already heard the BS from Grant Napier and he says with little tweaks we might win next year but you know how many years I've heard that crap. Also with the city not wanting to build a new arena and people's interest of spending the money decreasing I believe the Kings will leave Sacramento within the next two years or less, which will cause lots of problems with this town. I am very upset that the leauge puts the almighty dollar to have the winner vs talent.

I know that it will be Clippers vs Lakers and Dallas vs San Antonio next round then confrence will be Lakers vs San Antionio which is a whole California vs Texas and Texas will win beacuse of our president but in the finals I predict it will be San Antonio vs Miami and San Antonio will win another championship (who cares).

Ice Age: The Meltdown (Review)

With only 3 weeks of school left and the summer starting I will probably be at the movie theatre a lot. First up in my 2006 Summer reviews is Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. I had a free ticket when I bought Ice Age dvd and it expired today and my class was canceled so I went. First, there was only 3 people besides my self in the whole theatre and it was nice. The movie is really funny, no dull moments and if it starts getting dull then they went back to the squirel with his nut, poor squirel. This Ice Age is about the heard which is Manny and Mammoth, Sid the sloth and Diego the sabertooth tiger, are looking after some kids and Sid is planning to jump off of this ice glacier but Manny and Diego save him but in the proccess they see that the ice is melting. The group is told by a vulture that in 3 days the ice would melt and flood the valley so Manny Sid and Diego set off for a boat to save themselves from this flood. On the way the meet a group of possiums and another mammoth who thinks she's a possium. Well like all childrens movies they all made it through the flood with the help of the squirel and his nut to live another day. The most funniest moment is at the end we see the squirel die and the squirel got to a squirel heaven and can have all the nuts he wants as well as a big master nut and his about ready to eat it when Sid saves his life and comes back to earth. The squirel is mad and tries to immitate Bruce Lee and kicks sid's but like an old merry melodies cartoon and that is the end of the film. I will probably pick this up on dvd and would recommend for a pop culture laught like shrek is.

I had noticed that today is the 3rd Anniversary of the Watstein Homepage using blogger. Well I am happy that I have been blogging for almost 5 years when I started I had to update the site each time I entered a new topic by total creation (see old blog) but 3 years ago I had switched to blogger and haven't looked back. I would like to thank Sean for switching his blog to moveable type which made me which to blogger I know in the last couple of months I have been testing wordpress but I have chosen to keep my blogger blog running. I am still committed to bring breaking news that I'm interested in to the people as well as reviews of movies and interesting tidbits as well as rants from time to time. But overall I hope to continue blogging for years to come. Here is to the future.

Parking spaces in Lot 4, once a student and faculty parking lot, was cut back on Monday, due to the start of construction of the new bookstore – the remaining spaces are delegated to faculty and staff only.

Enforcement of this policy is set to take place as soon as possible and students who park in Lot 4 will be redirected to other parking lots both on and off campus, said Nancy Fox, manager of University Parking and Transportation Services.

Lot 4 is made up of 350 parking spaces. After the construction of the new bookstore, the amount of parking spaces will be reduced to about 90 spaces, Fox said.

Some students – including Jessica Wood, a geology major – disagreed with the recent shift in parking privileges.

"I think the faculty should find somewhere else to park because we're paying to be here, and they're being paid to be here," Wood said.

Freshman Erica Mendoza said faculty should not get special privileges.

"I think that parking should be first come, first serve because I don't think that faculty should get special privileges, when we're paying to be here and they're being paid. And without students they would have no reason to be here," Mendoza said.

But Fox said since it is near the end of the semester parking won't be as impacted as much as it would have been if the construction started sooner.

However, it is probable that fall semester of 2006 will most likely be the most challenging one to deal with when it comes to parking congestion, Fox said, since the completion of Parking Structure III is not estimated to open until January 2007.

Fox said everyone is being asked to use alternate commuting choices – including carpooling, public bus transportation, and biking – some to help relieve traffic congestion.

If everyone did something to help relieve some of the tension in traffic, then overall that would make a huge impact, Fox said.

While some students were bothered by the limited parking spaces being delegated to faculty and staff only, others did not say it was a problem.

Marcus Watstein, senior and computer science major, said it’s not a big deal because, according to the Destination 2010 plan, the new engineering building will also be in Lot 4, which means the area would eventually be eliminated anyway.

The new bookstore will cover 50,000 square feet, double the size of the current bookstore.

According to the university's master plan, the first floor of the current bookstore will become a food court, replacing the Riverfront Center. The third floor will likely be converted into academic and administrative offices.

Ronald Richardson, associate vice president of Facilities Services, said the Redwood trees that separate Parking Structure II from Parking Lot 4 will not be cut down.

Normally I don't get excited to be interviewed or have my name in the paper which is very rare but I has happy that Alicia published my comments, I am proud that after 4 years at Sacramento State I finally have been quoted in the paper. There is only one bad thing about the quote it isn't totally correct, I thought according to the destination 2010 master plan which can be viewed here the Engineering II building would be next to the new bookstore but in reality it is going to be Science II, Phase II and Engineering II is going to be next to the child development center. Well Denny Craine is comming to DVD, I am so happy that boston Legal the ABC show that is on every Tuesday night at 10:00pm which follows the Law firm of Craine, Poole & Schmidt. Which William Shattner is Denny Craine a rich right wing gun loving attorney and head of Craine, Poole & Schmidt. Shirley Schmidt is played by Candice Bergen who is always trying to keep Denny on the right track. Then there is Alan Shore played by James Spader who is a friend of Denny and is the spindoctor of the group as well as want to help the common man. There is also Paul Lewiston played by Rene Auberjonois. Besides the all star cast that I named there have been lots of great guests in the first season like Betty White, Shelly Long, Carl Reiner. I also love the comedy as well as the star trek puns that are used. So get ready for some fun in May.

Grand Opening Parkway Raley's

After waiting a year and a half and a lot of arguents the new Raley's in folsom is now open. Let me clarify about the arguments, right before the store opened it was mistakenly called Empire Ranch Raley's instead of Parkway Raley's but after a lot of work this error has been resolved. So what's the big deal about a Raley's in folsom. Well I am happy because this Raley's is less than 1/2 of a mile from our house and the center has a Starbucks, Bank of America, and lots of new restaurants. Now I hope that the restaurants a good so I can go to dinner with out having to drive far. This new Raley's is also suppose to be a new kind of grocery store but when I attended the grand opening Yesterday I thought the store was ok. It wasn't super special but it is interesting. I posted the pictures of the store below.

Chic-Fil-A

I was at the Supercenter Wal-Mart in Roseville and I saw a new restaurant called Chic-Fil-A which I found out is a company that is big in the south and midwest and is now comming into California, they are like a KFC and an old Foster Farms Restaurant. They dont really have fried chicken but a lot of chicken sandwiches. I had their standard fil-a which is a fried chicken sandwich and it tasted like the old KFC chicken sandwich which is no longer served. They have cross cut frys and my father had their coldslaw which he said is like KFC but they have a lot of old things like Brownies which reminded me of Foster Farms, the look is more like a Boston Market so it was a nice change but I wouldn't make a diet of it.

Well I have been bloging a lot lately but because I have been doing things I decided to talk about it. I first was on the plane again Sac State track and Field team and they won so they were parting on the plane. Second I got to fly in First Class, whoot. My father found out only 3 people were in first class and got us bumped, so I got a huge seat without a lot of people and better service, it was my first time in first class and I wished the flight was longer than 1 hr but it was a great hour. But today I'm paying for going on the trip, I am dead tired and with my long day at school it is hell. I got a test this week in Phys so god help me. Also I wanted to direct a comment to Sean (CONGRADULATIONS) I hope that your new job at Pelco brings you happiness, especially you will be with Sarah more. Well thats it now I need to sleep and go to class.

Final SeaTac Thoughts

Well here it is 4:17 on Sunday morning, I am currently in the internet cafe next to the hotels starbucks and can’t sleep. My thoughts are racing about what happened this weekend. In my last article “Greetings from SeaTac” I told my day and how I got to SeaTac but didn’t explain what I was doing in SeaTac. To begin I was flown up here with my father to look at property by NRPI (National Recreational Properties) ((The one that Erik Estrada does the infomericals for))but getting back to the property, which was called Anderson Island is near Steilacoom WA. For those who don’t know Washington State Steilacoom is 50 miles south of Seattle on I-5 and about 20 miles south of Tacoma and 20 miles north of Olympia. The Island itself is 3 miles from Steilacoom and is only reachable by ferry. The island does have a lot of lifes convences which are telephone, electricity, cable TV (through comcast) and a gas station as well a general store, fire department, elementry school, golf course and marina. The problem I saw with the island is that the price of the land which each parcel was really small and the cost to build a house and the idea of the cost to the HOA to build the house and no natural gas and septic tank for waste, was ridiculous especially when the ferry off the island runs every 2 hrs and ends at 8:00pm weekdays and 10:00 on weekends which is not my type of life. My only thoughts which some people might appriciate is that the island is close to Intel in Dupont WA so if I got a job which is unlikly because I’m not an enginner for microprocessors but even if I did maybe I would live on Anderson otherwise I wouldn’t. Well SeaTac was nice in the weather and I wish that I had more time to stay but it’s back to Sac this morning. So this is Sleepless in SeaTac saying GOOD MORNING.

Well I flew up yesterday to SeaTac, sean was right the internet at the airport is ridiculuous so I didn't buy. I flew alaskan air and I thought that the stewarts were rude as ever then was transported to the Double Tree next to SeaTac Intl. The hotel is super nice, there is internet in the room but they charge, but in the internet cafe with a starbucks the internet is totally free otherwise I would bluetooth call back to CSUS for internet which I did last night, but it is slower than dialup. I had dinner at Denny's across the street and breakfast at a dinner like Mels. I haven't seen much beacuse I don't have a car but the weather is beautiful. I will write more about today this evening and when I get back to Sacto. So until then Greetings from SeaTac.

Well, I was one of the millions that downloaded IE 7 public beta 2. The first word of warning of this new browser is the installation, most people including myself are having problems installing the browser because it interferes with other Anti-Spy software. It gets to 50% then says unable to install because of msfeeds.dll. To fix this problem, restart in safe mode and there should be no problems, unless running McAfee then don't install, typical Microsoft. IE 7 is the new browser that will be the backbone of Windows Vista released later in the year, the first new item is tabbed browsing which is scene in the second picture I also can show all pages open and you can click between anyone you want to view which reminds me of my mac, next IE 7 lets you look at RSS and ATOM Feeds and bookmark feeds like my Mac does in Safari, but you can subscribe to RSS and ATOM in bookmark like Firefox as well. The next thing in IE 7 is a Phishing Filter to protect you by making sure it is a valid site. Also IE 7 has a zoom feature in the right corner which is scene in the last photo for blind people. They also allow you to move the size of the page in the print preview so that you can put more info on a page, through a resize which was interesting. I believe that these improvements are great for Microsoft and if they aren't buggy then Microsoft might make people happy for once but that would be a new thing for Microsoft, so I give IE 7 a 3/5 for keeping up with the times but still have alot to go.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (REVIEW)

Since my uncle died right before christmas my aunt came home to attend the funeral. So because she is going back to Italy at the end of the week we got together and saw the Chronicles of Narnia, the fist thing is that my aunt and I arrived into the theater about 10 minutes late so I missed the previews and the first few minutes of the film but I was there in the begining credits so I probably missed the sene when the kids are told to leave because of the war. Also I used to own the novels that the movie is based on but I never read them. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a CS Lewis book that is a fantasy like Alice in Wonderland. The funny things I saw in the movie is the train that the kids rode on is the Harry Potter "Hogwarts Express" train in most senes the cars were painted green but there were senes when it was red, also the passenger car is the same when Harry, Ron & Hermine ride in. Also the fight sene between the White Witch army and Oreius, the lion's army looked so much like "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" fight senes. I also didn't know but the White witch look like it was being played by Alice Krige because of the look that was like it was in Star Trek First contact but actually it was played by Tilda Swinton. The movie was fun and entraining. I would recommend it to anyone.

First I had dinner with my grandma and her boyfriend a week before christmas, at cattlemens. My father and bought my christmas gifts for me on christmas eve and I shopped for them, I got seasons 1-7 of the Simpsons and a Homedics Back Massager which is great. I then got some cash from my grandma and also foundout that my Uncle died on the 19th but I didn't find out until yesterday because my family wanted my holiday to be a happy one but I am very upset with my family but not my father. My dad got his christmas wish which was to mirror the dinning room wall. I also am happy because I got a case of mexican coke from our new Bevmo so I have that and Tequilla for new years. My christmas dinner was at Bakers Square in Davis and it sucked but nothing new. Well I better get back to the news since most of Sacramento is flodded and Im going to lunch. I want to wish everyone a Happy & Safe New Year 2006.

Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire (Review)

Well it's been a long year and a half since the release of the last Harry Potter film to this one. My first warning before reviewing the film is that I haven't read Goblet of Fire in 2.5 years. So my memory of the book is a little shotty. In this enstallment of Harry Potter we first got a new director Mike Newell which he is the first british director of a british story and it showed. The passion in the movie was a lot more than it was in the previous 3 films but the only problem I had was the use of the English language because I don't remember Harry and Ron in the previous two films saying some british words which were fine but most people don't know that much british so might get alitle urked. But never the less it was fine by me. The movie didn't take the usual approch with the dursley's but went stait into the dream harry was having and then to waking up in the burrow and quickly to the portkey and to the quiddich world cup. The only interesting thing is that Mrs. Wesley was not in the movie. The great thing in the movie since it was a little bit more adult was that the Wesley Twins (George & Fred) were great commic relef, not annoying like previous movies. Also the movie did end with Harry, Ron & Herminie leaving hogwarts for the summer, which completed the story unlike book 3 which abuptly ended. The disappointment with Newell's directing is that is segways were weak he just jumped from sene to sene with no flow. But I also didn't mind. The most spectalar thing in the movie was the effects as well as the showdown between harry and voldomort. All I can say is wow and that the movie is worth seeing. I might even go see it again. Well the last bit I wanted to say in this review is that, the movie shouldn't be seen by little kids because eventhough it was a dark movie (no pun intended) there was no connection for them and there were some sexual things in the movie that kids wouldn't get. So before you go to see it remember to go to the bathroom with the run time of 2.5 hrs and no intermission you want to not have to worry about going during the movie.

Crazy People (Rant)

+= crazyI have to laugh what lengths people will go to get a freebee. On November 4 Ilounge.com posted that the .99¢ only store that was being opened in Orangevale, Madison Ave & Main would sell to the first 9 customers at the grand opening this morning at 8 am. The information was only publicized on the iLounge website, the .99¢ store website under press releases and the stores weekly ad. I figured that the lines for this would be a little long for the Ipod Nano but not ridiculous... My plans were to get to the store last night around 11pm with my father and we would campout overnight for it. Boy was i wrong. I arrived at the store last night around 5:00 pm just to check and the line was already too darn long. I found out that a group of Intel Employees who read it online camped out from Tuesday night in tents in front of the store and that they were not roughing it at all. When I arrived they had a good sized TV that they were watching and they had a large tent with laptops and were somehow into a wireless internet connection and most were working, doing their work from there as well as playing games on their PSP's. The last people of the nine who got the nano arrived Wednesday at 6:30 am to get it. I believe that these people are nuts to camp out for 2 days to get a .99¢ ipod, and don't show any signs of have to worry about camping out. What kind of a weird world have we come to. Oh well I'm just mad that I couldn't get one. I am also trying for the Video Ipod on Fox40 as long as I'm one of the first five callers this week.

Harry Potter GOF Countdown

RT Opens Folsom Gold Line

Saturday, Regional Transit (RT) had the grand opening for the new Gold Line to Folsom. I am happy that they had finished the light rail to Folsom, now I can take it which is only 5 minutes from home to Sac. State. It will save so much Gas I am happy about it. I attended the grand opening and it was a zoo. When I got their I was lucky to get a close spot because I know how to get around Folsom, even with streets being blocked. I first went and looked at the Historic Train which is on the top left, which was brought from Downtown Sacramento and was significant because it is the first train that ever came to Folsom about 150 years ago. I then went and looked at the new Historic Folsom station and took pictures of the station shown on the right and the artwork from the station which has an early American theme. I then made my way back up to Sutter St which the city had a parade which was called Yesterfest-Celebrating 150 years of rail. There were people in historic clothing and I felt like I was living in a small town back before the 1950's. Then I made my way back to the new Station and heard the speeches that were given by Dr. Beverly Scott of RT and other local politicians like Roger Niello. Because it was such a zoo my father and I went to lunch and came back to light rail late in the afternoon. I parked at the new Hazel Station and hopped on the train heading for Sunrise then got off then took the train back to historic Folsom and then back to Hazel. I was lucky because it was the last train leaving Folsom which was 7:00 pm. I am disappointed that the train ends so early even thought us residence of Folsom were told it would end at 9:00 pm but RT and our city mayor blames it on cost of running the light rail. Sunday my father and I went from Folsom to Watt-I 80 which took 1.5 hrs but by car would only take 30 min so the train is slower. I am happy that the train is running but on Tuesday's and Thursday's I still have to drive to sunrise station or I would get trapped at sunrise when I come home because I get out to sunrise around 8:00 and the Folsom extension ends at 7:00. The new stops have made it difficult to find a seat but oh well. So that all there is for my new light rail experience, how boring. So it's time to get back to work for school.

CSUS (Sacramento State) New Logo

Yesterday California State University Sacramento introduced a new logo to get more interest into the school also not offically changed names to Sacramento State. The new logo seen above is horrible in my opinion, the student body in the State Hornet is assuming that the Berkley based Osaki Design stole the NYU's flame and incorporated it in our logo. But the river that is underneath I believe comes from NCL (Norweign Cruise Line) Logo. I beleve for the money that we spent which was 34K could have been done by a student for less money and would have looked better.

James Doohan dies at 85

The world of Star Trek has lost a great man today. James "Jimmy" Doohan died at age 85. He has been fighting with Alzheimer's disease for a couple of years now and was wheelchair bound. He made his last appearance to celebrate his star on the Hollywood walk of fame earlier this year. Doohan played Scotty on the original Star Trek and was the engineer for the Enterprise and the first 6 Movies, and made the series great with his Scottish jokes of humor.Most people also don't know but Doohan created Klingon in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. People do remember Doohan for the line "Beam Me Up Scotty" which referred to Scotty beaming the crew up and down from planets each week, but what I'll miss about Doohan is how he portrayed the engineer in star trek which made me want to be a engineer but not just fixing hardware but also computers. I thought that Doohan's best line was in Star Trek IV when he said "Computer.. Hello Computer". I wish that there were more men like Doohan to inspire people eventhought it was a character he portrayed. So in conclusion Scotty has ventured to the Undisovered County and he gave the word, so "Warp Speed" James Doohan.

Fantastic Four (Review)

When I was young, I used to watch the Fantastic Four cartoon on tv. The movie did remind me of the cartoon which was great. The movie was alittle long plus this movie reminded me of the same story that was in Spider Man and Daredevil but with different characters. The only major thing that disapointed me was the graphics for Mr. Fantastic, because in the movie he streaches his hand under a door and up to the handle but it looked like they rushed the graphics that it was alittle lame. Also the movie did leave it open so that they could make a sequel. The movie was alittle slow at times but I thought that based on the movies that I have seen I really was not that much disapointed. The cast of the movie includes Chris Evans which he loves to show off his body, and I know that being a guy I shouldn't care either way but this guy made me feel like chopped liver. So if you are a girl you probably would say that Chris Evans is a hunk and playing Johnny Flame, the Human torch was a great role for him. So in ending I think that this is a great action film for the summer and suggest that people should go see it.

Herbie: Fully Loaded (Review)

Out of all the summer movies I have seen so far I believe that Herbie Fully Loaded was the best film I have seen. The movie when showing the credits shows clips of Herbie up until now. Then we see Herbie being sold to a junk yard to be dismanted. Lindsay Lohan comes into the movie as a granddaughter to a racecar family. Her father is played by Michael Keaton and was one of his better roles. Lohan has just graduated from college and is planning to go to New York to work for ESPN, but before she goes her father wants to buy her a car for graduating, and she decides to buy Herbie and learns that it is a special car. Herbie then takes her to a mechanics shop which is one of her old friends in high school. They then go and get parts where we meet our bad guy who is supposed to have won 3 Nextel 500 races and Herbie beats this guy and then thoughtout the movie the family goes through some rought time but Herbie saves the day. I loved the movie because it was a true contuation of a Herbie film and followed the disney ideals of a family film.
