| Wednesday, June 25, 2003 Apple's WWDC 2003 REPORT Eventhough I wanted to go to the WWDC this year I didn't have the money to go, so I watched the Keynote speech that Steve Jobs gave off the internet. THE NEW G5, the First 64Bit Processor and what is considered the fastest computer was the last Item that was talked about at the WWDC. The G5 is a joint effort that Apple and IBM have made together. The processor speed starts at 1.6 GHZ and tops out at 2.0 GHZ. The processing power is suppose to be faster than anything that Intel is making from the Pentium 4 or the Zeon Lines. I wish they did a comparison to a AMD chip but will have to wait and see. Also the New G5 has up to 8 GB of Ram as well as 4 independent cooling zoned areas that autosense when it's too hot and makes it a quieter system.
MAC OS 10.3 "PANTHER" Steve's first thing that was introduced at the confrence was the next OS release which is codenamed PANTHER. Panther is suppose to have over 100 new improvements but I don't really believe that unless they are really small. Steve talked about 10 improvements in Panther.
The first one is a new Finder which is below, The new feel of the finder is suppose to be more of a Itunes look as well as having the ability to label folders and be able to search instantly so as you type what your searching it is already looking.
The next major change in Panther is a new thing called Expose', which allows you to look at what you have open when you have lots of things open instead of closing things to find it. The picture explains it very well
The other things that were talked about for Panther were things like: Fast User Switching Change users without logging out of your applications. Is like the one in WinXP but with a Apple Flare. Mail New time-saving features to make contacting folks easier. FileVault FileVault secures your home folder with AES-128 encryption. Only works on Home directory. Preview Scroll through and search PDFs faster than before. Font Book Find, organize and manage all the fonts on your Mac. Faxing Send and receive faxes on your desktop. One click and you can fax, now buit in. iDisk Work on remote files from a copy of your iDisk on your desktop. It autosync. with Idisk so you could work on the doc with lots of computers and they all would have the newest version of the document. Xcode The fastest way to develop Mac OS X applications. One last thing and Application that goes side by side which is iChat AV iChat AV offers videoconferencing for the rest of us. and iSight. iChat AV is the next version of iChat but alows people to videoconfrence over instant messaging. And the new iSight is a video camera that allows you to use iChat AV to the fullest capacity. But instead of buying iSight you can use any firewire camera.
