Well yesterday I went with ACM which stands for the Association of Computing Machinery down to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory I woke up at 5:00 am and left the house at 5:30. I got to Sac State at 6:30 am and got to Livermore at 8:30. We got to see a gigantic lazer that takes the entire building that is about 5 floors and is the size of gigantic wherehouse.
After we went through the NIF building to see the entire lazer we got to then learn more about VOIP and also some information about BioInformatics then after that we got to see Bluegene/L which is a supercomputer that IBM made that has 280.6 teraFLOPS of processing power. We got to touch it and also take a photo which we might nor might not get so I am using a stock photo.
After seening bluegene we had a Q&A about clustered computing since we are going to be getting two Itanium computers which we will used a unmanaged switch and we are trying to see what we are going to create to allow to be run on the Itaniums as a cluster. After that we drove home. I really was impressed with the tour and hope to go again. | |
